Shanti lives in London in works in the jazz and world music fields. His professional career took off while he attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama, when he was a featured soloist on Kenny Wheeler’s Walk Softly album.
He has played with musicians and bands such as Alex Wilson, Tim Garland, Monica Vasconcelos, Snowboy, Etheridge’s Zappatistas, Brand New Heavies, Michael Garrick, Clare Foster and Merengada.
As well as performing live with Grand Union since 1987, Shanti has worked with the likes of Bobby Watson, Rubén González, Annie Whitehead, Mike Westbrook Orchestra, and the London Jazz Orchestra.
He has worked extensively in the Latin music scene, alongside acclaimed artists like Guillermo Rubalcaba and Frank Emilio Flynn.
Shanti is heavily involved in educational work both with the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and Grand Union Orchestra.
