40th Anniversary Film Release!

The Grand Union Orchestra's 40th Anniversary Celebrations have been captured in a mesmerising feature film, produced by rising young Nigerian film maker Daniel Oluwasayo Olabode (Akanda Productions). Now available online.

Dive into a unique world of highly original compositions on themes that resonate with our times: heart-rending songs, fiery jazz soloists, Indian ragas, African rhythms, and ravishing sounds from China.

Venturing into film-making - a brand new but wholly welcome new departure for us! - showcases Grand Union’s commitment to multiculturalism and artistic excellence. Our unique approach to music-making seamlessly binds elements of jazz, world, classical and traditional music, songs and theatre into a powerful narrative, creating performances that transcend boundaries and resonate with audiences regardless of age, race or class.

The narrative reflects their own lived experience as well as that of the perfromers themselves (many of them first generation migrants), referencing also historical and contemporary events. The film reveals breathtaking performances, behind-the-scenes moments, and the artists’ ability to tell authentic migratory stories of both ordinary and exceptional people.
