pulse of africa: drumming unwrapped

  • St John on Bethnal Green 200 Cambridge Heath E2 9PA London (map)

Come along, join in, or just enjoy the rhythms, music and instruments of the African diaspora in London today.

Featuring our exciting new Pan-African percussion ensemble, which made its stunning début in our Windrush 75 celebration at the Hackney Empire in June with its astonishing range of instruments from berimbau, dikanza, balafon and kalimba to kora, djembe, panlogo and talking drum.

Our ‘Unwrapped’ sessions allow you to get up close and peronsal to the instruments, their playing techniques and history, hear about the journeys of the musicians who play them, join in stirring African chants and joyous songs, and dance in the aisles of Sir John Soane’s magnificent Church!
