Davina Wright

Caribbean English. Voice

Davina’s exploration of the voice has been a rich and diverse one. Between 1988 and 1997 Davina performed jazz, popular music and was a founder member of the accappella group ‘Darker Than Blue’, before deciding to explore the classical genre whilst studying her degree at Goldsmiths’ College. She made her debut with the Leitmotif Opera Company’s production of ‘Mephistopheles.’ Since completing her degree in 1997, she subsequently completed a Diploma in Operatic Studies at Abbey Opera and has also gone on to perform the roles of: Lucy, in Scott Joplin’s ‘Treemonisha,’ Cenerentola, in Rossini’s ‘Cenerentola,’ and numerous ensemble and smaller roles, the Pegasus Opera production of ‘Carmen’ being among them, which was toured throughout the UK, finishing with a performance at Covent Garden’s Linbury Theatre in September 2001. Davina joined Grand Union in 2001. She has more recently become involved with music education in schools.
