By the time he settled in England in 1975, Brian had already played with the great American singer Sarah Vaughan as well as accompanied Nancy Wilson when she toured in South Africa. Once in the UK, he soon started playing with some of South Africa’s most celebrated pioneers of jazz such as Chris McGregor, Dudu Pukwana and Johnny Dyani. Brian joined Grand Union in 1992, by which time he had founded his own group with some younger South African musicians called “”District Six”. Brian has worked with some of the finest including “The John Taylor Quintet”, Ronnie Scott, Courtney Pine and Ed Jones and has recorded many albums as well as appeared on numerous TV and Radio broadcasts. He has come to be regarded as one of the most influential drummers in England, besides a well-renowned teacher and major figure in world music with the ability to teach many styles of drumming and improvisation to all ages and abilities.
